The Sanskrit name for this chakra is Muladhara, which translates to ‘root support’. The base chakra, which rests at the base of the spine, houses patterns passed down from our families, as it begins developing pre-birth whilst we are in the womb. Our ancestral roots therefore make up a part of who we are, and yet there is often little conscious awareness of these qualities. Dancing in alignment with the base chakra can activate these characteristics and bring them to consciousness. We might even imagine dancing with our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
